NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) — Community members in Navassa gathered to hear about the latest on redevelopment of the Kerr-McGee Superfund Site Saturday at the Community Center.
The Multistate Environmental Response Trust’s Redevelopment Planning Initiative works with community stakeholders on their vision for future use of the site.
People were invited to share their ideas, goals, and concerns while hearing what the Trust has learned so far through redevelopment studies.
Representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency were also on hand to help educate the community on the current progress of the project.
“We want to make sure that the community understands the technical portion, as well as how the technical portion relates to the reuse, and how those two go hand in hand. So that’s one of the concerns is making sure they’re educated on that,” said Tonya Spencer, the EPA’s community involvement coordinator.
There will be a workshop in late February where community members will be asked to participate in group discussions based on the information and ideas presented on Saturday.
