PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — In Surf City, drivers will see the first traffic shift for the new bridge this summer.

Last month, WWAY told you the new bridge could be open to drivers as early as November because of a new incentive for contractors.

Engineers with the Department of Transportation say the first traffic shift for the roundabout will happen July 9 on the mainland.

The rest of the traffic shifts depend on when the bridge is open to drivers.

The completion date for this provision is September 25, 2019.
