NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina has awarded New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon the Sheriff of the Year award.
According to a news release, this award is presented to the Sheriff who demonstrates a strong example, leadership, dedication and commitment to the NC Law Enforcement Torch Run.
The Sheriff of the Year encourages his/her Office involvement in fundraising, local/state games, relay/Final Leg, and the mission of public awareness for the NC Torch Run in his/her county.
The Sheriff was selected by the Torch Run Council and the Special Olympics NC Law Enforcement Torch Run staff.
Sheriff McMahon also was awarded Gold Medal Award: Last year the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office raised over $17,233.00 for the Special Olympics North Carolina, ranking 21st in the state.
In addition, Sheriff McMahon was awarded the 50th Anniversary Torch, participating law enforcement agencies who raise $2,000 or more from runner pledges for their agency receive a torch 50th anniversary torch.
