LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Veteran news anchor Donna Gregory is joining the WWAY NEWS team on its evening newscasts.
“I have admired Randy and the WWAY news team since moving to Wilmington in 2012,” Donna said. “They have strong leadership, amazing community involvement and a dedication to reporting stories of real value to viewers in Wilmington and the surrounding area.”
Donna will anchor WWAY NEWS at 5 p.m., Good Evening Wilmington, WWAY NEWS at 6 p.m. (along with Amanda Fitzpatrick) and WWAY NEWS at 7:30 p.m.
“We are so fortunate to have a talented and experienced anchor like Donna available and willing to join us while Randy is out,” WWAY News Director Kevin Wuzzardo said. “We are excited to have her join us not because of what she brings to the anchor desk, but because of the experience and knowledge she will add to the newsroom in general.”
Donna may be a familiar face to many viewers. After starting her career with stops in Illinois and Oklahoma, Donna spent a dozen years as an anchor and reporter in Raleigh at WRAL and WNCN. She then worked until 2008 for NBC News, where she was a correspondent for Today, Nightly News, CNBC and MSNBC, and anchored at MSNBC. Donna has been writing, consulting, volunteering and focusing on family since moving to Wilmington.
“I don’t mind telling you I have a few first-time jitters about getting back in the saddle,” Donna said “The technology has changed tremendously since I last sat behind an anchor desk. Thankfully, I’m surrounded by really talented journalists who are happy to help shorten my learning curve. Also, I have a few more ‘happy lines’ on my face than I did when I reported on the opening of I-40 in Wilmington back in 19… what was that year again? Despite all that, I’m really excited to be part of the WWAY NEWS team and can’t wait to get started!”

And for those asking about Randy, he is doing well as his treatment continues.
