Chadbourn police chief: ‘We’re coming for them’ after woman shot in head

CHADBOURN, NC (WWAY) — Two women were sitting in a car on Enterprise Street in Chadbourn when someone fired gunshots, hitting one woman in the head and grazing the other, said Chadbourn Police Chief Anthony Spivey.

“It’s kinda heartbreaking, innocent people with children all around, to think someone would do something like this,” Chief Spivey said.

The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday. Officers were about a block away when they heard the gunshots. They were dispatched by 911 and arrived on scene within a matter of moments, according to Spivey.

The woman who was shot in the head was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with extensive trauma and had to undergo surgery. The second woman who was grazed did not need medical attention. Both were innocent bystanders.

Spivey tells WWAY the shooting happened in close-knit residential area.

“Where it happened, there’s always children out there playing, everyday. That’s what’s got us fired up so much about it, not only do we have a female shot in our community, but just the fact we know how many small kids are there with their families,” Spivey said. “It could be an innocent child at any given moment. We are not gonna tolerate it.”

Spivey said they have strong leads in the case.

“You can tell them on the news, we’re coming for them,” he said.
