McMahon says that a detective was investigating a well-known heroin dealer.

“Our vice narcotics detectives were investigating a heroin dealer,” said McMahon. “During the investigation, due to the actions of the heroin dealer our Detective Bowie shot the suspected heroin dealer.”

The alleged dealer was shot and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Store employees were nearby the moment that shots were fired.

“One car come out of nowhere I don’t know where it came from,” said an employee.
“But it sped and hit the vehicle that we were using to stock the items in the restaurant.”

We decided to not share the employee’s name because they were afraid for their own safety. He was out behind the restaurant when the incident happened.

“There was just a whole bunch of commotion,” said the employee. “Police tried to deescalate the situation by selling them to stop and put their hands up.”

The suspect has non-life threatening injuries according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The detective is on administrative leave pending an investigation. Wilmington police are investigating the alleged drug dealer and their actions. The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
