WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man has been arrested for killing a teen and injured another man during a shooting on Carolina Beach Road on Thursday, police say.
“Yeah they are shooting on Carolina Beach Road, a car just ran off the side of the road and the air bag popped out,” says a 911 caller.
Trequan Crews, 21, faces first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill inflicting serious injury among many other charges. He is currently being held without bond.
Police say a 15-year-old boy was killed and 24-year-old Tyshaun Delts was hurt in the incident. 25-year-old Daquan Daniels was in the car at the time too, but was not injured. A person called into 911 reporting that they had been shot moments after the crash.
“I just got shot, right here on Carolina Beach,” the 911 caller said. “My back, I’m hit in my back.”
Daniels was convicted in 2017 of involuntary manslaughter for the death of Aubrey Redd. He was released in August.
The shooting happened just after 1 p.m. Thursday. Police say both vehicles were traveling northbound on Carolina Beach Road when they slowed down at the Matteo Dr. stoplight and Crew opened fire. WPD says the victim vehicle then took off as the shooting continued — bullets striking two other cars at the stoplight and an apartment complex nearby. No one in those cars or apartments were injured during the shooting, police say. A 911 caller says she originally thought it was just a car crash.
“I was in my bedroom and I thought it was a car crash on the road, but then they spun out.””
Police say Crews was stopped and arrested by members of the Mobile Field Force (MFF) team around 10:25 p.m. Thursday night in the 2900 block of Clayton Street.
This case is still under investigation.
