The new name is Long Leaf Park.

Commissioner Jonathan Barfield proposed the name change Monday night and it passed 3-2.

The park is named after Hugh MacRae who played a significant role in the 1898 Wilmington Massacre.

Although they did not specify a time frame for the name change to take place, signs at both entrances were removed Tuesday including the lettering in the arch at the College Road entrance.
