NC man gets life for killing girlfriend & her son
CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — A Charlotte man has been sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to killing his girlfriend and her son more than three years ago.
Fifty-year-old Scott Davis pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Davis also pleaded guilty to attempted murder for shooting and wounding the woman’s daughter.
Thirty-eight-year-old Gabrielle Kinard and 18-year-old Angelo Kinnard were shot Dec. 13, 2008.
Mecklenburg prosecutors had intended to seek a death sentence.
Gabrielle Kinard’s brother said the family opposed the death sentence, saying the family wants Davis to spend a long time in prison thinking his crimes.
Prosecutors say the shooting followed a discussion about Davis moving out because of his loss of a job and refusal to get counseling.
