Homes evacuated due to gas leak

NEW HANOVER COUNTY (WWAY) — Wilmington firefighters are clearing the scene of a gas leak, but N. 30th Street between Market and Chestnut streets will stay closed for a couple more hours.

Firefighters say a construction company accidentally ruptured a service line while trying to replace it, but the company will not face any fines because the gas line markings were off.

No one was hurt, but several homes had to be evacuated.
