UPDATE: Victim identified in fatal shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police have identified the victim in a shooting on 9th and Orange Streets in Wilmington.

Police say 26 year old Martineze Vaughn died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds.

“I heard a bunch of banging like um it sounded like banging on a trash can lid or something like that,” said Cody Raney, who lives down the street from where Vaughn was killed.

The call came in at around 4:15 p.m. that a black male had been shot multiple times and was lying on the steps of 122 S. 9th St., police say. When police arrived they found the suspect and a small crowd gathering.

Witnesses say he had lived there with the mother of his children. They called him a family man.

“I just don’t know how they’re going to feel when they realize they dad aint gonna come home again you know,” said an unidentified man of Vaughn’s children.

Vaughn was moving out witnesses said when they saw someone pull up, get out of a car with a gun and just start shooting.

The shooting is under investigation.
