Habitual felon convicted for stealing from apartment complex
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Supply man will spend as much as 10.5 years in prison after being convicted yesterday of stealing from a Wilmington apartment.
A jury convicted James Frederick Burriss, 42, of felonious entering with the intent to commit a larceny and injury to real property. He also admitted to being a habitual felon, which increased his sentence to between 95 and 126 months.
The DA’s Office says on Nov. 23, 2013, Burriss stole a smart card machine from Campus Edge Apartments. Residents use the machine, which was estimated to have about $2,000 inside, to put money on a card to use the laundry at the complex. It was never recovered.
Burriss’s criminal history includes convictions for robbery, assault on a female, heroin possession and financial exploitation of the elderly.
