Victim: Bullets hit home, one goes through wall
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — With three shootings happening this past weekend alone, it seems like gun violence is back on the rise in the Port City.
The shootings happened on the 1300 block of Greenfield Street Friday night, the Sportsman Club on Castle Street after 2:00 a.m. Saturday and at two locations on Page Avenue at around 3:45 a.m. the same morning.
There were no injuries in all of the weekend incidents, but that doesn’t make victims like Fred Warrick feel any better. Warrick noticed a man going through his mailbox, and when he confronted the man, the suspect came back and shot into Warrick’s home.
“I dialed 911 … I heard bullet shots hitting the chimney side of my house and one bullet came through the wall and almost hit my flat screen TV,” Warrick said.
Mystic Wainwright, who lives near one of the shooting locations, had his own theory about the recent rash of shootings.
“It’s hard to get a job … So when you take the ones that are able to work and trying to work, and you take that from them, you know, what other options do you have?” Wainwright said.
Wilmington Police could not comment on the recent shootings or any potential connection to recent shootings in the past month.
