US House candidates talk issues at forum
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Candidates for the 7th District US House seat talked about the issues at a candidate forum Monday night.
The forum was sponsored by WWAY and WHQR, and our very own Chris Brown was the co-moderator. Democrat Jonathan Barfield and Libertarian J. Wesley Casteen discussed a wide range of issues from Ebola to the economy. They both attempted to set themselves apart as the candidate that represented a better choice to the voters.
The two men, though, had very different answers when it came to the topic of law enforcement and Ferguson, MO.
“I find that things do happen. You have some folks that will do racial profiling. It happens in this community. It happens across our country,” Barfield said.
“The media took a theme. The media took a headline and ran with it. We have yet to determine the truth of that situation,” Casteen said.
David Rouzer, the Republican candidate for this seat, decided not to attend the forum, because he already had media availability scheduled this month.
Election Day is Nov. 4.
