CB Town Council meeting to discuss speed limits, Freeman Park fees
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — At a regularly scheduled town council meeting, Carolina Beach leaders will discuss, among many topics, lowering the speed limit in one area and increasing the fees of access passes to a popular beach among campers.
According to the council’s online agenda, officials plan to discuss the 2015 access pass rates for Freeman Park. It’s recommended to increase the fees to the following: annual pass to $75 for the early purchase special; annual pass to $150 purchased after December 15; daily passes to $30 per vehicle; eliminating multi day passes; and creating a new rate for holiday weekends of $50 per vehicle per day.
The early purchase special period to get the discounted annual pass is between December 1st and 15th. No word on what holiday weekends are considered in the special rate of $50 per vehicle per day.
The idea for changing the fees was brought up back in September when the Freeman Park Advisory Committee Meeting discussed potential changes for 2015.
In addition to the Freeman Park fees, town council will also discuss lowering the speed limit on US-421 to 25 mph between Sumter Avenue and St. Joseph Street. This was first brought up in June when Police Chief Ken Hinkle met with NCDOT to discuss the challenges the town had with crosswalks, signage and speed limits in the town.
