Woman beaten with bat in home invasion attack

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police said a woman is recovering from a brutal baseball bat beating during a home invasion.

Investigators said the incident happened overnight Sunday at around 12:30 a.m. on the 2000 block of Harrison Street. Police said when they got to a home in the area, a woman was found severely beaten by a baseball bat. She was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical center when she said she was awoken by a man who demanded her purse and beat her.

Neighbors in the area find the incident disturbing.

“It’s a good bit unsettling. I think, well what do I do if somebody got in my house? I don’t have any weapons. I don’t have a baseball bat,” Don Skinner said.

The victim, only described as a woman in her 50s, said she did not know her attacker, police said. However, the report says the attacker called the woman by name.
Investigators believe her injuries are not life-threatening.
Representatives from New Hanover Regional Medical Center say she is in fair condition.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Wilmington Police.
