Four dead after car fleeing deputies in Robeson Co. hits school bus

LUMBERTON, NC (WTVD) — Investigators say four people are dead after a car apparently running from a deputy in Robeson County hit a school bus head on. There were no students on board the bus at the time.

The accident happened on Wiregrass Road, which is south of Lumberton.

The Robeson County school district said a mechanic from its transportation department was taking the bus to the transportation building from Fairmont High School for service when the bus was hit. The mechanic was seriously hurt.

A Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputy was reportedly following the car after someone reported it as suspicious, but investigators said there was not an active chase prior to the crash.
