UPDATE: Suspect identified in Budgetel shooting turns himself in
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police said the Columbus County man wanted for a shooting at the Budgetel Inn has turned himself in.
Officials issued a warrant for Ricky Heckstall, 32, of Columbus County for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill earlier Wednesday.
Police responded to the motel at 4903 Market Street around 6:00 am Sunday morning. Witnesses told police they heard men arguing outside and then multiple shots being fired in one of the rooms.
When police arrived they found Barry Maultsby, 33, with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for treatment.
