NC pizza delivery driver released from hospital

RAEFORD, NC (AP) — A 19-year-old Raeford pizza delivery driver has been released from the hospital after treatment for injuries he suffered during a beating.

Officials said Domino’s Pizza driver Tyler Lloyd was released on Wednesday after undergoing brain surgery.

Hoke County authorities say Lloyd was delivering a pizza last weekend when two men robbed him and beat him with a baseball bat. Co-workers called law enforcement when he didn’t return to the restaurant after 40 minutes, and deputies found him unconscious in his car.

Sheriff Hubert Peterkin says he has ordered his deputies to shadow pizza delivery drivers.

Juan McPhaul of Raeford has been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault, robbery and conspiracy. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
