Police: Man escapes trio trying to shoot, rob him when gun misfires

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police say a man escaped a trio trying to shoot him during a robbery overnight when the suspect’s revolver wouldn’t fire.

Police say they first got a ShotSpotter alert just before 3 a.m. in the 700 block of S. 8th Street. Officers say another call came in shortly after that from a victim who told them he was getting out of his vehicle when three men in hoodies approached him.

That’s when they say one of the three men pulled out a silver revolver and attempted to fire, but officers say the gun only “clicked” when it went off.

Police say the victim then took off running, but heard gunfire from behind him when he was getting away. Officers say the victim was not hurt, and WPD is still investigating.
