WPD investigating home invasion and assault

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two people were robbed and assaulted after two men reportedly broke into a home Sunday evening.

Wilmington Police said the incident happened at 8:19 p.m. Sunday at a home on the 1500 block of S. 12th Street. Two men had reportedly pushed their way into the home after its residents answered the door.

Police say the men hit the residents with a handgun and ransacked the home, demanding money. After one of the victims gave them cash, the two men fled on foot. Officers brought in K-9s to search for the men, but no suspects were located. They say one of the men was wearing a blue hoodie and the other was wearing a gray hoodie.

Both victims were transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center; no word on their injuries or condition.
