Police: Man in wheelchair assaulted, robbed

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Wilmington Police are looking for the man accused of assaulting and robbing a handicapped man.

The incident happened Wednesday just before 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of North 15th Street and Princess Street. Police say the victim, a 55-year-old man confined to a wheelchair said a man approached him with a handgun demanding money. When the victim told the suspect he had no money, the suspect then hit the man on the head with the gun and took a small bag the victim had. Police say money and prescription medication was in the bag.

Police say the suspect was last seen running south. The incident was reported about a block away from New Hanover High School.
