Arrest made in Tuesday murder, victim remembered

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man has been charged with murder in a midday shooting earlier this week.

Raheem Akbar Shabazz Floyd is charged with first degree murder in the death of Sha’quan Boston, 20. Boston was shot and killed around 11 a.m. Tuesday near the Nixon Street and Love Alley in Wilmington.

Wilmington Police Chief Ralph Evangelous announced the arrest at a news conference this afternoon, where he was joined by Boston’s family.

“Sha’quan is up looking down with that big smile he always had,” said Sheila Long, Boston’s mom. “Sha’quan is still with us you know we talk about him all the time we’ll never stop.”

His family saying how wonderful of a person Boston was. A sentiment echoed by people who knew him including his high school principal.

“Proud moments in happier times,” his principal Todd Finn said on Twitter today with a picture of Boston at graduation. “Diamonds are forever.”

Floyd, 26, is a felon. The NC Department of Corrections website shows convictions dating to 2007 for charges including robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and drug offenses. He was most recently released from prison in June 2013 after serving four months for a drug crime.
