Victims identified in deadly arson
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A 51-year-old woman and 14-year-old girl were identified Wednesday as the victim’s of a deadly arson fire in Wilmington early Tuesday morning.
Pamela Pickett and her great-niece Makayla Pickett died as a result of the fire at their home at 1901 Lingo Ave., said Cathryn Lindsay with the Wilmington Police Department. Three other family members were injured. Their names were not released.
According to the Star News, Pamela Pickett was able to escape the house, then collapsed outside. Makayla, Pamela’s great niece, was found inside by fire crews. The Star News also spoke to to a family friend who asked to not be identified; that person said Makayla was blind and diagnosed with autism.
Autopsies were performed Tuesday afternoon in Jacksonville. The causes of deaths were not released.
