Police: Man robs Scotchman at gunpoint, gets away in Expedition
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are searching for a suspect they say robbed a Wilmington Scotchman store near UNCW at gunpoint early Tuesday.
Wilmington Police say around 12:45 a.m., they got reports of an armed robbery at the Scotchman in the 5200 block of Wrightsville Avenue, which is just a few blocks from the hospital there and near the back-side of UNCW’s campus.
Officers say when they got to the scene, the clerk told them the robber initially walked into the store asking for change for a 20 dollar bill. Police say when the clerk opened the register to get the change, the man pulled out a handgun.
After the employee handed the man the cash he demanded, police say the robber took off in a dark-colored Ford Expedition. Officers say their search for the suspect’s vehicle turned up nothing, and there’s not word on how much cash he got away with.
Police say the man is described as an average-sized white male with blonde hair, who was wearing a black baseball hat at the time of the crime. WPD is still investigating.
