Wilmington Police say shot fired was accidental

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police responded to a shot that was fired at Campus Walk Apartments on Racine Drive near UNCW.

Wilmington Police and detectives on the scene at Campus Walk Apartments have determined that a small handgun discharged inside an apartment. The round went through the wall into an adjacent apartment.

A woman in the second apartment sustained a flesh wound, either from being grazed by the bullet, or from debris when the bullet came through the wall. Her wound was so minor that EMS did not transport her to the hospital for treatment.

Officers have seized the handgun and the circumstances of the discharge are being investigated.
