McCrory joins other governors for DC meeting with Obama
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory says President Barack Obama was receptive to ideas about Medicaid reform and other issues during a discussion between the president, himself and three other governors.
That’s McCrory take from Tuesday’s White House meeting with Obama and members of the National Governors Association’s Executive Committee. McCrory joined the panel last summer.
McCrory says he talked with Obama and Cabinet-level leaders in his administration about energy, infrastructure and Medicaid expansion. McCrory is weighing whether to pursue expansion but says he told the president he wants “a North Carolina plan” – meaning one that the state can fashion for its own needs. State legislative leaders have been skeptical about expansion.
The governor also was in Washington as political ally Thom Tillis was sworn in as a U.S. senator.
