3rd suspect arrested in vandalism of state-owned vehicles

RALEIGH, NC (AP) — State Capitol Police have arrested a third suspect in connection with the vandalism of 65 state-owned vehicles and the theft of 23 gas fleet credit cards.

A statement from the N.C. Department of Public Safety says 36-year-old Rodney Jermaine Wilson Sr. of Knightdale was arrested Tuesday after he turned himself in to authorities. He is charged with 48 separate felonies for breaking and entering vehicles, financial card thefts, and misuse and burning of personal property. The vandalism occurred last September and October, and two of Wilson’s sons also face charges.

The department said more than $16,000 of fuel was purchased in Wake, Johnston, Wilson and Alamance counties using the stolen credit cards.

Wilson is in the Wake County jail under $551,000 bond. It’s not known if he has an attorney.
