No foul play suspected in Old Dock Elem. fire

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Investigators say while they cannot determine the cause of a fire at a school, they say there’s no evidence of foul play.

Around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, a fire destroyed the main building at Old Dock Elementary School. No students were in the building at the time, and there were no injuries reported.

Fire investigators, with the help from the ATF, say the cause is undetermined but there is no evidence of foul play. Investigators say while they couldn’t determine an exact cause, they say an electrical short could be a possible cause.

School leaders had construction crews demo the building Wednesday afternoon, officials said. During that time, firefighters were called to put out some hotspots, which they say is normal.
