WPD releases new PSAs and YOUTUBE Channel
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Governor Pat McCrory proclaimed January 9th “National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day”. It comes at a time when the relationship between police and the people they protect face daily challenges in the United States. Now, local law enforcement is reaching out to try and bridge the divide.
Wilmington Police just launched a series of public service announcements showcasing two words.
The first is ‘respect’.
From PSA:
“Respect is a unique and sacred bond we share with others.”
“You give respect, you gain respect.”
“Respect should be given to anyone, no matter what they look like or who they are.”
The second word is ‘trust’.
From PSA:
“When I think of trust, I think of people who honor their word.”
“Trust is putting your faith in another person to protect your interest to keep you safe.”
Spokeswoman Linda Rawley says they want a community conversation. “In light of all the national attention,” Linda Rawley said, “the negative national attention with law enforcement, we felt it was time to start a discussion about these important words that really do mean so much.”
Two words….to bring together….two worlds.
“We are working hard to try and improve police community relations any way we can,” Rawley said, “so we believe the foundation is respect and trust.”
And everyone taking part of the discussion….
From PSA: “It’s your choice, it matters!”
You can find the PSA’s in their entirety along with CrimeStopper videos of cold cases on the WPD’s new YOUTUBE Channel.
Investigators hope the videos on the YOUTUBE Channel help stimulate memories that could lead to an arrest.
