Some call on Wright to resign, urge House to throw him out
RALEIGH (AP) — More people are calling on Representative Thomas Wright to resign or urging the House to begin efforts to remove him from office.
The State Board of Elections yesterday referred Wright's case to Wake County prosecutors after investigators found evidence showing Wright may have used more than $240,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses.
The New Hanover County Democrat refused to testify at the hearing.
Former Democratic consultant Joe Sinsheimer filed the original complaint against Wright. Sinsheimer asked the House to hold hearings that would lead to Wright's expulsion from the House seat he's held since 1993. The state constitution says the House decides the qualifications for its members.
The state Republican Party also has called on Wright to resign.
