First flu death reported in Brunswick County

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Health officials in Brunswick County have confirmed the first flu death in the county.

Deputy Health Director Fred Michael says an elderly woman in her 80s died from flu complications on January 7. In the state, deaths from the flu have spiked since December.

Locally, several hospitals have limited visitor access due to the illness.
