Sheriff’s Office: Man claims he’s a deputy, assaults person

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Southport man wanted on multiple charges.

Deputies say Kyle Brown, 31, was arrested Wednesday on charges including kidnapping, first degree burglary, assault inflicting serious injury and impersonating law enforcement.

According to warrants, Brown broke into a home where the victim was living after saying he was a deputy with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. The warrants say Brown took the victim’s cell phone, worth $50, after hitting the victim. The attack left the victim with nasal fractures, warrants say.

Brown was placed in the Brunswick County Detention Facility where he remains under a $100,000 bond.
