Sheriff, Police Chief and Mayor discuss departments

WILMINGTON — Earlier this month we told you about a turf war going on between the New Hanover County Sheriff and the Wilmington Police Chief.

Today Sheriff Causey and Chief Evangelous got together to talk for the first time since the spat came to light.

Mayor Saffo says Causey and Evangelous basically lay out on the table how each runs their department.

Nothing has changed as far as the cancelled mutual aid agreement. Wilmington officers are still banned from stopping vehicles outside city limits.

Neither Causey nor Evangelous would comment on the meeting.

Mayor Saffo says the two will continue to come to each others aid if need be.
