WPD mourns death of 28-year veteran

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is mourning the death of one of its most experienced officers.

Lt. Mary Green died today after battling an illness, the department announced this evening.

Green was a 28-year veteran of the Wilmington Police Department. A WPD spokeswoman says she was active in the community and with young people, including as a volunteer with Special Olympics, the annual United Way Fundraising Campaign, the American Cancer Society and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.
