Police: Man not charged in deadly shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police say there will be no charges filed against the man who shot and killed a person trying to rob him.

Police say it happened in the parking lot of 420 Raleigh St. around 10 p.m. Saturday. Police say earlier in the evening, Frankie Stukes tried to rob a man in a parking lot who was walking to his car. Gunfire was exchanged during the attempted robbery. Stukes died in that incident.

Detectives said the robbery victim ran back into the business for safety and didn’t know anyone was shot.

Police said they do plan to file charges this week against three other people they say were involved in the attempted robbery. Names of the three have not been released, but police say they will be charged with robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
