State renews CDS charter 10 years

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland’s Charter Day School will keep running for at least 10 more years after the State Board of Education today unanimously approved renewing the school’s charter.

The 10-year extension is the longest renewal designation granted. In a news release, the school, which received a decade-long renewal in 2005, said such renewals are granted to public charter schools who demonstrate stability and quality academic performance, in addition to accountability and integrity in areas of compliance and finance.

“Today’s renewal will see us through our 25th year and confirms that we are thriving in our 15th,” Charter Day’s Campus Coordinator Lisa Edwards said in a statement.

Like all other public schools in North Carolina, CDS got its report card from the state today. It scored a B in school performance, EOG reading and EOG math.
