Cape Fear Skyway Bridge to cost $1 billion

NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The Cape Fear Skyway Bridge will cost close to $1 billion if construction is ever approved.

To get a “go” on the plan the North Carolina Board of Transportation is meeting right now to find a way to pay for the bridge.

Fifty-five percent of the cost would be paid by tolls. That still leaves a funding gap of more than $400 million.

But the Department of Transportation has a plan.

Senior Transportation Planner Mike Koslosky said, “One of the options that we will discuss today is to ask the general assembly to subsidize a portion of the gap in order to construct the project.”
