Belville residents tired of speedy drivers

Some Belville residents are sick and tired of speedy drivers on Highway 133.

Right now the speed limit for the stretch of highway through Belville is 45. Town officials are trying to get the limit lowered to 35.

Nearby residents say they often see drivers going well over the speed limit.

Some people living in the Olde Towne subdivision off NC 133 say the roads are way too windy for those speeds.

Belville resident Dorothy Taylor said, “I’ve heard accidents of course and I hear people trying to get out of Old Towne and I hear squealing of the brakes because it’s hard to get out of here people are going so fast.”

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has to approve the reduced speed limit before it can be final.

Belville town officials say they plan on sending the request to the DOT this week.

The Town of Belville doesn’t have a police department.
