12 inmates charged in Raleigh jail riot
RALEIGH (AP) — Officials say a dozen jail inmates were charged today with felony rioting and assault following an incident that injured three jail officers early this morning.
Warrants state the incident occurred as the officers closed a cell block in the Wake County Jail in downtown Raleigh. One officer was treated at a hospital for minor injuries. The conditions of the other two officers weren't released.
Each inmate was charged with one count of felony rioting and three counts of assaulting a government official.
A spokeswoman for the Wake County sheriff didn't immediately return a telephone message today seeking comment.
