National Guard soldier dies in car wreck

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A member of the North Carolina National Guard has been killed in a weekend car accident on his way to a scheduled drill.

Police say 29-year-old Sergeant James Allen Lynch of Maiden in Catawba County was killed in a single-car accident about 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

The National Guard says Lynch was traveling to a drill at the 130th Aviation Regiment in Morrisville, between Raleigh and Durham. The wreck was reported by Greensboro police.

Lynch had been a member of the Guard just over a year and had served in the Marine Corps for six years previously and had deployed to Iraq. He is survived by his mother, daughter and fiance.
