Oscar party supports student theater in Wilmington
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Folks got all dressed up to celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night at TheatreNOW. Tonight’s Oscar viewing party was to raise money for Superstar Academy, which is a program that works hard to give all children a chance to perform and learn through theater.
Guests enjoyed food, drinks and a silent auction, while celebrating the best motion pictures of the last year.
Superstar Academy executive director Zach Hanner says it is important to give all children the opportunity to learn through creating. Tonight was to help raise awareness of the importance of artistic education for children throughout the community.
“I thought what a great evening to bring people together, watch the Oscars, talk about acting, talk about theater right here in the theater,” Hanner said.
Hanner said the program currently reaches about 100 kids, but through events like tonight they hopefully will be able to raise enough funds to expand the program in the future to include any child who wants to perform.
This season they will put on their second show “Tales of the Unusual,” which is a spin-off of “The Twilight Zone” TV series.
