The six-part PBS series Broadway examines the origins and history of musical theater and its intertwining with 20th-century American life. Episode One: Give My Regards to Broadway (1893 – 1927), hosted by Julie Andrews and created by filmmaker Michael Kantor with rare performance footage and restored film clips.

Kids @ MUSEUM CAMP

With a weekly enrollment of a maximum of eight students between eight and eleven years old, Kids@CAMP will give a behind-the-scenes look at the museum, while also offering high-quality, individual instruction in a variety of media. Each week-long session culminates with a reception and an art show curated by the young artists. Members: $145 per child Non-members: $165 per child

Hand and Wheel Pottery Techniques

September 10 – October 31; Mondays and Wednesdays

9:00 am – Noon

Through lecture and demonstration, Hiroshi Sueyoshi teaches participants hand building, wheel throwing, glazing, and finishing techniques. Open to all skill levels, ages 16+. $250. To register, call 910.395.5999 x 1000.

EXHIBITION INFORMATION:

Between Taste and Travesty: Costume Designs by William Ivey Long
On view through October 14, 2007

This premiere exhibition features the costume designs by William Ivey Long, a native of North Carolina and recipient of four Tony awards for his work on Broadway. Long’s brilliant designs for stage and film will fill the museum’s exhibition spaces with costumes and sketches created for Nine, Contact, The Producers, Frogs, Crazy for You, Guys and Dolls, Hairspray, Cabaret, La Cage aux Folles, and A Christmas Carol, in addition to the designer’s work Siegfried and Roy at the Mirage.

The exhibition may be viewed only in guided tours at the following days and times:

Tuesday – Sunday, 11:30 am and 2:00 pm
6:30 pm every fourth Friday evening
