State board votes to revoke Columbus Co. school charter
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Today the State Board of Education decided to begin the revocation process for a small charter school in Columbus County.
School officials say SEGS Academy in Delco has had a history of financial crisis for the two years it’s been open. They say they have been working to solve the problems of the past and would like a second chance.
SEGS Academy sent their petitions to keep the school open to Raleigh on Wednesday. They also included a letter from the former Board Chair acknowledging its role in past problems and expressing the intent to dissolve the old board and create a new one. Those documents were also presented today.
The State Board of Education decided that even with these changes, they decided to rule with the recommendation to revoke the charter. No word on when the revocation will be finalized.
Calls to SEGS Academy for reaction have not been returned.
