Man drowns in Cape Fear River

LILLINGSTON, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man who was swimming in the Cape Fear River in Harnett County drowned in about ten feet of water.

The sheriff’s department says 35-year-old Eugene Ventura of Fuquay-Varina was swimming early yesterday with friends near a boat launching ramp.

Officials received a 911 call about a possible drowning about 12:30 a.m. Ventura’s body was found after about two hours of searching.
