Boat donated to Wrightsville Beach Police
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Wrightsville Beach Police will soon have easy access to the water. The police department has never had its own boat, until now.
Atlantic Marine and Edgewater Boats are giving the town a 20-foot boat for only $1 a year. The town will have to pay for upkeep and fuel.
Chief John Carey says this will allow officers to check other boats for mooring violations and it will help during search and rescue missions.
Chief Carey said, “We do have a need for a boat, we’re two islands, we do have a large water area encompassed in our zoning.”
Before the police department can begin using the boat, the board of alderman must approve the contract. That’s expected to happen during a meeting on the August 23.
