Shallotte River Swamp Park construction moves forward

SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY)–This wet winter has posed a challenge for many construction efforts and that goes for crews working on the Shallotte River Swamp Park.

Barrett McMullan and his family are behind this project. He says the weather has delayed their progress so far but they are moving forward. “We’ve had a very wet winter here which slowed things down. We are about a month behind,” McMullan said.

“For the first month they battled the mud. They spent half the time building and half the time getting their machinery out of the mud,” McMullan said.

McMullan says they are happy to finally be out of the mud and making progress. “Everybody is dead ahead trying to get this thing pushed across the finish line in time for the season,” he said.

The swamp park will include a zip line course, aerial adventure park and swamp boat eco-tours.

The Shallotte River Swamp Park was supposed to be open in May but now it’s scheduled to open in June.
