Possible break in case of missing child

WHITEVILLE — It’s been nearly five years since four-year-old Kynande Bennett’s mother claimed her little girl disappeared outside the Whiteville K-mart.

Now, there could be a break in the case.

Remains found in New Jersey two years ago are now undergoing DNA tests. A South Carolina police detective says a sketch of the remains resembles the missing child.

Even though her child’s body was never found, Vartasha McCollough-White is serving a 20-year sentence for homicide by child abuse.

It could take months before DNA tests come back.
