What’s Happening: Week of Aug. 23
This is a great weekend to get to know the arts. From dance performances to costumes on display, you won’t want to miss these great events.
There will be dancing in the streets at the beach, UNCW and the Cameron Art Museum as the Sarus Dance Festival invades Wilmington.
The Alban Elved Dance Company events feature modern dance mixed with performance art — and many of the shows are free.
Saturday morning the second annual Men’s March Against Rape, Sexual Abuse and Gender Violence will be winding through the streets of downtown.
Shemekka Miles with the annual men’s march said, “This is an opportunity for men to walk through downtown Wilmington wearing women’s shoes. We have the option of them holding them as well, but they will be walking one mile downtown.”
The Brunswick Community College Intercultural Festival is also happening on Saturday featuring food, music and art.
If you feel like making Saturday a movie night the Maritime Museum in Southport is hosting “Cinema by the Sea.” For $2 a person check out the latest James Bond flick, “Casino Royale.” The show begins at sunset.
The Cameron Art Museum continues its William Ivey Long exhibition through October 14. You can view some of his award-winning costume designs featured in Broadway productions.

If you want to add a little mystery to your life check out the murder mystery dinner theatre at the Boiling Springs Community Center. For $20 you can try to figure out, “who done it?”
