Azalea bloom late due to cold winter

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Azalea Festival in Wilmington relies on the beautiful flowers to set the scene for the celebration. But the harsh winter wasn’t easy on the plants.

In fact, Azalea Gardens said the early Azalea’s are about two weeks behind. Still, the County Extension Director said he thinks the full bloom will be on time.

“Oh yeah. We will have blooms for the Azalea Festival,” said Al Hight. “It may not be the mid-season ones like most are the ones that most people think about.”

The festival runs from April 8th to the 12th in Wilmington.
